About Me

I play flute and piccolo in the Houston Symphony. I’m also a performer and board member at Third Space Music, a musician-led non-profit that puts on interactive chamber music concerts.

Before coming to Houston I was a member of the Nashville Symphony from 2012-2016. I’m originally from Seattle, Washington, where I started playing the flute in public school at age 10. A few years later I began private lessons in the studio of Bonnie Blanchard. I went on to earn a Bachelors of Music and Performer’s Certificate from Eastman School of Music, where I studied with Bonita Boyd. While there I also studied piccolo with Anne Harrow. In 2010 I was the Piccolo Fellow at the Aspen Music Festival, and while in school I also performed with the National Repertory Orchestra and the Pacific Music Festival. In 2012 I got my Masters of Music from the Shepherd School of Music at Rice University, where I studied with Leone Buyse.

Private Lessons

I love to teach students of all ages and levels. My goals for my students are the same as my goals for myself:

1) Create a beautiful sound by unlocking the natural resonance of the body. Practicing should never be painful or cause injuries. Everything we do to find natural ease of movement in playing will have the added benefit of creating a free and beautiful sound.

2) Practice smart not hard. Use your time efficiently by breaking problems down into manageable sizes and approaching them in a structured way.

3) Always remember that music is storytelling. Every piece of music, excerpt or etude has a story at its core, and every performance is an opportunity to share that with your audience.
